Listing day is the day an IPO’s shares start trading on the stock exchange. Here is how the day works.
When do shares list?
Under SEBI’s T+3 timeline, shares list on the third working day after bidding closes (T). Allotment is on T+1, and refunds and the credit of shares to demat accounts on T+2.
Listing day timings

How the listing price is set
In the pre-open session the exchange collects orders and finds the price at which the most shares can change hands. That price becomes the listing price.
Listing gain
Listing gain = (listing price − issue price) ÷ issue price × 100. An IPO issued at ₹100 that lists at ₹125 has a 25% listing gain. With a lot of 150 shares, that is ₹25 × 150 = ₹3,750 per lot, before charges.
Selling on listing day
If the shares are in your demat account, you can sell them from 10 AM through your broker. Some investors sell to book the listing gain; others hold for the long term. Prices can move a lot on the first day, and the exchange sets a price band that limits how far they can move.
